Shopping at Na'ama Bay
The streets around Na'ama Bay, and those in neighbouring Sharm el-Sheikh have become fertile ground for local artisans selling their unique blends of traditional Egyptian crafts and modern decorative items.
Visit the market streets to see paintings both big and small, carvings and wonderful mosaic work using traditional skills and either traditional motifs or modern decorative styles.
Basket work and beadwork remain very popular form of traditional craft which are often turned to modern requirements in the forms of lampshades, tissue box covers and some useful small containers.
Egyptian painters have also embraced modern more abstract styles to make arresting oil painted canvases suitable for any modern house, often with subtle or sometimes more bold, references to the ever present desert with it's awe inspiring vistas and colours.
Glass work has also a strong tradition and is seen most often in the traditional Shisha, a hookah' or water pipe, which can be found in both functional and decorative varieties.
Although modern Egypt has moved on we still remember the triumphs of our ancestors and these are reflected in some of the unique souvenirs such as gold cartouche of your name or papyrus scrolls either pre-made with interesting facts about Egypt, or especially created for you with details of your family line. Cartouche are often available in the form of a necklace as they make a wonderful pendant, while papyrus is either in a roll form, or framed and suitable for hanging on the wall.
Watch out also for mugs with Egyptian astrological signs on, carvings in many sizes of traditional gods and Pharos, incense holders, brasswork such as candlesticks, oils, other ceramic, T-shirts, bellydancing skirts and other accessories.
Sand artwork, which is a transparent glass bottle filled with coloured sands which form a design visible through the wall of the bottle. This unique art form is practiced to a very high level of skill in Na'ama Bay and is a must-buy for anybody visiting our area. Bazaars in Na'ama Bay
There are several major Bazaars and Souks along the road in Na'ama Bay, in close walking distance to the hotels they are worth checking out as each one has some unique things, though of course many famous items can be found in each bazaar or market.
Zeus Bazaar - Located on King of Bahrein road behind Pacha
nightclub and next to the old market, offers a wide range of items in a
comfortable indoor mall. Open until late every night.
Alaa El Din Bazaar - Also on the side street Malek Mamlaket off the main Malek el Bahrein road and is next to Camel Dive hotel.
Na'ama Shopping Centre - at the end of the King of Bahrein Road,
on the corner with Sultan Qabos-Mashaba, opposite the Tropitel Hotel.
The largest dedicates shopping centre in the region this purpose built
building includes outdoor and indoor areas.
And if you run out of cash then remember there are plenty of ATM machines, for example The Cataract Sharm resort on King of Bahrein Road has a Piraeus Bank branch with ATM facilities.
